Are there ethical zoos? The Cincinnati Zoo has the option for vegan/ vegetarian meals for patrons, as well as all utensils being bio-friendly. Their work is done under ‘Conservation & Research of Endangered Wildlife’ (CREW). The zoo follows strict international guidlines when ‘breeding’ the animals, but ultimately looks for the animals safety; they also take DNA samples from the animals and crytogenically freeze the samples incase of the species extinction. CREW also works to save our plants who lack seeds to reproduce, our beloved cacao being one. All animals here are either diabled prior to coming to the zoo or are there for conservation efforts, they release what they can! Is it ok to support this zoo? – Totally Vegan Buzz

Excellent question but very complex!! "Zoo" is a bad word, and "sanctuary" is generally a good word. Your zoo that you mention seems to be quite humane BUT I would do very well to examine the actual living conditions of those animals. Are they in a tight enclosure, do they have to perform to entertain audiences, ask yourself HONESTLY would they be better off in the wild. These are all intelligent questions and Im sure you are wise to answer them. Please do not support cruel incarceration. If you own a pet (and hopefully you dont), remember to ADOPT dont shop for one. Thanks for taking the time to write this beautiful question!!
