Cats are great pets! I would say the most important and vegan freindly things to do with a cat, is to insure you get them fixed! I think all vegans have diffrent opinions about how to feed pets, but as for what vets say and the reality cats are obligate carnivores. You cat needs some kind of meat in/ with the meals, its what healthy for them! With that being said among other things, look into some of the grain free options (big health issues with grain in thier diets otherwise) and buy bulk if possible! If you are able to locate a vegan dry/wet food, I would still suggest buying some kind of meat, sadly, to give with their meals or as a treat.

Cats are designed to eat meat they know no better and need it to live this is the complete opposite to humans who have herbivore teeth know so much better and do not need it to live

Don’t deprive the cat because of being vegan if he/she really likes meat and needs it but try and buy from as cruelty free as you can find companies

Anything you do makes a difference and we’re all behind you ❤️

Please reject the advice from the commenters suggesting to feed your cat a vegan diet. Cats are obligate carnivores and must have meat in their diet to survive-there have been instances where a cat or kitten was fed aa vegan diet and became so ill they almost died. Here is a short article about why cats can’t survive on a vegan diet: https://www.aspca.org/news/why-cant-my-cat-be-vegan

The best food option I am aware of is Open Farm pet food-all their dog and cat food is humanely sourced and they have very strict standards regarding animal welfare. https://openfarmpet.com/cat-food/

Whoops! Sorry, I posted that answer before reading the other comments! Cats make excellent pets but do need to eat a meat-based food. You could adopt one from a humane society or reputable rescue. I think as long as you give a cat the best possible care then ir is fine to have one for a pet.

if you’re taking in a neglected animal that had nothing – giving them something – even if it’s plants – is much better than nothing. After that then you can see the health conditions and fix them along the way.
