Hailey Bieber took to Instagram this week to let her 49.5 million followers have a sneak peek of her latest getaway with her loved ones.
Bieber is currently enjoying her summer with her husband Justin Bieber and close friend Justine Skye.
The 26-year-old posted several pictures and videos from their quiet holiday.
However, what she also ended up doing was spark a debate after her T-shirt with the words ‘got milk’ grabbed attention for its reference to the dairy milk industry.
Mixed reactions
Fans flocked to her account to decode the meaning of the slogan emblazoned on her T-shirt.
Bieber is said to be following a predominantly plant-based diet and has even said that she’s ‘never felt better’ after ‘completely cutting’ meat.
“Why would you say you are plant-based and make your skincare line vegan but support dairy milk?!?!” wrote one user.
“It’s really disappointing to see you advertise for Big Dairy. This industry commits horrible acts of cruelty to cows, pollutes disadvantaged communities, hurts the environment, & creates antibiotic resistance and a host of other medical problems. This is especially surprising considering how you market @rhode as vegan and cruelty-free and profit greatly from that label,” added another.
“Are you plant-based or not? Just curious. The dairy industry and factory farming are destroying our planet and causing so much suffering to animals. Watch a documentary on milk production before you sign a contract just for the $$$. Educate yourself before decision-making. Please,” a third said.
“Hailey, you must know your platform’s power and reach. Why wear this shirt when you’re also promoting your vegan skincare line? Girl. You know that slogan means dairy and that dairy is scary,” a fourth commented.
Some fans speculated that Bieber was actually trying to drop hints about Rhode’s new products, a cruelty-free vegan skincare line the model launched last year.
“Oh, I know! I think it’s a milk toner. But I was just explaining to the others that if Hailey mentions milk in general it doesn’t mean she’s talking about cow’s milk. She could be talking about animal-free, plant-based, cruelty-free milk because yes those do exist,” shared one user.
“She didn’t talk about any milk. It’s a milky texture for her new product,” added another.
“She’s not supporting dairy she’s promoting her new “milky” toner lmao y’all are so unserious,” a third pitched in.
Is Hailey Bieber really plant-based?
Bieber has been raving about vegan food for years. However, she has never really embraced the diet completely.
In an Instagram story in 2021, she wrote: “Over the past two and half months I completely cut meat (other than fish) out of my daily eating and have been sticking to more vegetarian/vegan dishes.
“I have never felt better. [I] feel so clear and energetic. Just sharing for anyone who may be thinking about cutting out meat,” she added.
