“While I cannot adopt all of these puppies, I wanted to at the very least pay the adoption fee of every single puppy in this facility.”
A popular Twitch streamer has generously donated to Los Angeles animal shelters, in a bid to help more dogs find forever homes.
Political commentator and popular Twitch streamer Hasan Piker visited multiple dog shelters in the city and offered to “pay the adoption fee of every single puppy” at all the shelters he visited.
This move was seemingly on the same lines as philanthropist and YouTuber Jimmy “Mr Beast” Donaldson, who did a similar good deed in 2020.
However, Piker, who was looking for a puppy himself, said he also wanted to help the other puppies.
“While I cannot adopt all of these puppies, I wanted to at the very least pay the adoption fee for every single puppy in this facility, and I’m going to do that in all of the other places we go to as well, hopefully if they let us,” HasanAbi said in a video he posted on Twitter.

On a visit to the Wags & Walks Adoption Center in Sawtelle, the social commentator spent $15,000 to ensure that all animals would have one less hindrance preventing them from finding caring owners.
“This facility was $500 for adoption fees so if you come here and you don’t have $500 and you wanna adopt a dog and you’re eligible, you fill out a form and you can come and adopt it,” he said in the video
“We were overwhelmed by the generous donation he made,” said Chloe Esperiquette from Wags & Walks.
However, while Piker said he was paying for the adoption fees for the animals, Esperiquette confirmed that Wags & Walks decided not to use the money for that purpose.
According to the shelter, waiving adoption fees may allow people to take on the responsibility of owning a pet that they may not be able to afford in the long run. In many cases, when the owner runs out of money, the animal often ends up abandoned or going to a shelter.
“We were honored to have Hasan visit our adoption center and to receive such an impactful donation!.” a Wags & Walks representative told Kotaku over email.
“Hasan’s donation will go directly toward supporting the 120+ dogs in our care. On average, the cost of care per dog we save is approximately $500. Hasan’s donation will support our rescues’ critical medical care, spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, training and rehab, humane education programming, and also help fund supplies like kibble, potty pads, toys, beds, etc.”
Apart from Wags & Walks, Ostonox, Piker’s video editor, told Kotaku over Twitter DMs that the American internet personality gave an additional $5,000 each to the Best Friends adoption center and the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter.
Online Response
The video, which has now gone viral, has divided the Internet. While some people praised him for his generosity, others questioned the need to publicize his charitable act.
“Hopefully all of them get adopted soon. Such a wonderful thing to do,” tweeted one user.
“Kudos to you for doing this. It really helps to clear the shelters and allows lower income families to experience the joy of pet ownership,” added another.
Meanwhile, one user wrote: “Mr Beast does philanthropy: Bad!!! Hasan does philanthropy: very chill (apparently). Seems like everyone just wants their attention dollars.”
“If Hasan is a true socialist, he would personally re-home every single dog in every shelter in the LA region, what a hypocrite,” commented another.
