19 sweets and snacks you probably didn’t know were vegan

Whether you’re craving salty, sweet, or something in between, here are some tasty vegan snacks, some of which you probably didn’t even know were vegan.

Veganaury 2023 is already halfway through and going vegan this year is easier than ever.

Many people assume that sweets and snacks are off limits for vegans, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

With the rise in plant-based diets and increased awareness of animal welfare, there are now countless options available from tasty vegan sweets to  savoury treats.

We’ve rounded up 19 of the most delicious and unexpected vegan snacks that you might not have known existed.

Whether you’re a vegan yourself or simply looking to add more plant-based options to your diet, you’ll be sure to find something that you’ll love on this list.

1. Swizzels Refreshers

Swizzels

This chewy yellow bar is vegan-friendly.

#partypooper-The tubed, fizzy sweets of the same (by Barratt) are not suitable for vegans, sadly.

2. Swizzels Love Hearts

Animal lovers and gluten-free folks will certainly love this  Swizzels treat.

Love Hearts are totally vegetarian, vegan and made without gluten.

3. Oreo

Oreo

This all-time favourite cookie is vegan-friendly because it contains no animal sourced ingredient.

#partypooper- The UK website points out that it is not due to the risk of cross-contamination with animal products.

4. Propercorn Sweet & Salt Popcorn

Swap the toffee or buttery popcorn from your bucket on movie-night for this wonderfully-light dairy free snack.

5. Walkers Salt & Vinegar

This brand carries a ton of vegan flavours including Walkers prawn cocktail, Worcester sauce and ready salted.

6. Graze Snacks

Best of all: this isn’t the only snack to be vegan. Belgian speculoos and cinnamon pretzel sticks, smoky barbecue crunch, dark chocolate cherry tart and marmite peanuts are vegan friendly too.

7. Doritos (Chilli Heatwave)

The Cool Original and Nacho Cheese are off limits but the fiery chilli flavour will still satisfy your craving. The Lightly Salted flavour is also accidentally vegan.

8. Lotus Biscoff

Lotus Biscoff

Grab these cinnamon-y biscuits the next time you spot them. Even the uber-popular spread, which can be used on toast, for baking or slathered on fruit, is vegan. Go for it!

9. Skips (Prawn Cocktail)

Don’t let the word ‘prawns’ fool you. These childhood favourite crisps are vegan with some tasty combination of flavourings.

10.  Pot Noodle (Beef & Tomato)

This savoury snack is absolutely vegan. There are no animal ingredients, just flavourings and soya pieces.

The BBQ Pulled Pork, Piri Piri Chicken and Chinese Chow Mein are also suitable for vegan diets, according to PETA.

11.  Sunbites (Sweet Chilli)

Sunbites

If you’re looking for a light snack to satisfy those cravings then the Sun-Ripened Sweet Chilli flavour from Sunbites is just right for a crunchy experience.

12.  Pret’s Dark Chocolate Salted Almonds

The coffee shop has stocked these delicious vegan snack items to go with your coffee order.

13.  Candy Kittens

Candy Kittens

Candy Kittens is the brainchild of Made In Chelsea and Strictly star Jamie Laing.

According to Laing, the brand has  worked really hard to make its new range with absolutely no gelatine.

“This means that five of our flavours are now vegan: Peach Fizz, Blueberry Bliss, Wild Strawberry, Sour Watermelon and Tropical Mango,” it reads on the website.

“Our Eton Mess recipe is currently coated in beeswax, so it is not vegan but is suitable for vegetarians.”

14.  Party Rings

These binge-worthy biscuits are accidentally vegan and they’re not just for kids parties. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

15.  Nakd Bars

Nākd

We shamelessly gorge on Nakd bars only because they’re vegan and wheat, gluten and dairy free too.  Don’t judge us, they’re even healthy with smushed fruit and nuts.

16.  Polo Mints

Spearmint, fruit, sugar-free and mint – are appropriate for vegan diets.

17.  McCoy’s (Salt & Malt Vinegar)

We’re darn excited that these flavourful, thick-cut, crinkled crisps are vegan. The salt and vinegar variant is too.

18.  Stroop Club

Stroop Club

These are quite possibly the tastiest treats you can try. Stroop Club coffee caramel stroopwafels are dangerously addictive. You can also try the chai caramel flavour.

19.  Twinnies

The Swizzels drumstick squashies are not vegan, so Aldi comes to the rescue with its vegan “twinnies” in flavours: raspberry & milk and sour cherry and apple .
