Meat-free bacon burgers will be rolled out to Burger King locations in the UK on 4th January next year.
Burger King is all set to rock the plant-based world with the launch of its brand new ‘Bakon King’ range.
The fast-food giant, which has pledged to offer a 50% meat-free menu by 2030 has partnered with vegan bacon company La Vie for the latest food offering.
The Bakon King range has six burgers of which two are plant-based: The Vegan Royale Bakon King and The Plant-Based Bakon King (Single or Double).
Whilst the meat versions are made up of Whopper patties along with crispy bacon and cheese slices, their vegan counterparts come with either a Vegan Royale patty or plant-based Whopper with vegan Cheeze slices, strips of vegan Bakon and egg-free mayo and ketchup.
The plant-based iterations will roll out across the country from 4th January, just in time for Veganuary.
“(Vegan) bakon is for the kings”
Romain Jolivet is the Chief Marketing Officer at La Vie. She said: “We are very proud to be partnering with Burger King, bringing our multi-award-winning, plant-based bacon, La Vie™ to their restaurants.
“This will allow us to accelerate the pace of switching from animal-based meat to plant-based, which is a climate emergency we are all facing.”
Jolivet continued: “Thanks to the open-mindedness and leadership of Burger King, proactively moving towards more plant-based options, millions of consumers will be able to try our next generation of plant-based bacon.
“With only 7 ingredients and a product packed with proteins AND fibers, this is a bakon for the kings, not for the clowns.”
Soco Núñez de Cela, brand and communications director at Burger King UK, added: “We are thrilled to be joining forces with La Vie.
“The synergy between our two brands and fierce campaign tactics meant this partnership was a match made in heaven.
“After the huge success of our Bristol and Leicester Square meat free restaurants, we look forward to building on our partnership with La Vie to ensure we meet our goal to become 50% plant based by 2030 in the UK.”
Burger King and the plant-based trajectory
The La Vie partnership isn’t the only effort taken by the international chain to move towards its plant-based goals. Earlier this year, the fast-food chain introduced vegan nuggets across its UK restaurants. It also launched its flagship meat-free restaurants in London and Bristol.
Last month, the brand opened a vegan Burger King in Portugal just days after its Israel franchises added plant-based options to its menus.
Earlier this year, Burger King Germany added a vegan version of everything on its standard menu.
Austria, Spain, and Switzerland are some of the other countries to have hosted vegan Burger King restaurants in the last year.
“Adapting to customer preferences is a key focus at Burger King,” the chain’s UK chief executive Alasdair Murdoch said in a statement.
“We are committed to helping our guests make good decisions about what they eat and drink and providing them with informed choices.”
Burger King fans who cant wait to get their hands on the vegan bacon cheese burgers, have the chance to grab a burger before it arrives in restaurants, with a buy-one-get-one-free offer on the app. The Vegan Royale Bakon King and the Plant-Based Bakon King can be ordered between 31st December – 3rd January.
