“It’s time for retail to robustly advocate for sustainability, animal welfare and healthy products that aren’t derived from abusing animals.”
For the first time ever, a 24/7 vegan convenience store has opened in North America’s San Francisco Bay Area to help champion sustainability and animal welfare whilst catering to consumers’ everyday needs.
Located in a Shell gas station in San Bruno, CA, Hangry Planet, is the brainchild of actor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Bobak Bakhtiari. He has conceptualized and designed every aspect of the market from its products to the customer experience.
Vegan, sustainable and cruelty-free guaranteed
The store, which aims to be the one stop shop for all things vegan, offers snacks, meals, organic desserts, and more. Moreover, every single store product is vetted to ensure it is sustainable and cruelty-free.
Visitors can find a plethora of products from the likes of Beyond Meat, JUST Egg, Follow Your Heart Cheese, Daiya, Dr. Praeger’s, Oatly, and a deluge of healthy plant-based snacks plus a wide variety of “craving” snacks from major brands.
Another feature of the market includes a Laird’s Superfood machine featuring vegan hot cocoa and golden milk.
Aside from food items, which patrons can’t get enough of, Hangry Planet also offers a gas station and immersive virtual-reality car wash, along with colorful and comical sculptures and live music.
‘North America’s first fully plant-based convenience store’
Speaking about the store’s concept, Bakhtiari said: “Coming across an undercover investigation into organic dairy farms by Animal Recovery Mission and then reviewing the prolific global work of Animal Equality was like being zapped by a truth taser that left me sporadically sobbing for weeks
“What I learned of the systematic and fundamentally abusive practices on factory farms, alongside severe environmental consequences, inspired me to transition Hangry Planet to be North America’s first fully plant-based convenience store.”
He added: “It’s time for retail to robustly advocate for sustainability, animal welfare and healthy products that aren’t derived from abusing animals.”
‘End the needless suffering of animals’
Expressing her happiness at the launch of this trailblazing concept, Sharon Núñez, president and co-founder of Animal Equality, said: “For 15 years, Animal Equality has exposed the cruelty that happens within the global animal farming industry, using investigations to educate the public on the horrors that take place behind closed doors.
“We are humbled to know our message is having a fundamental impact within retail, inspiring Hangry Planet to trailblaze a new paradigm for plant-based convenience stores. Together, we will end the needless suffering of animals used in our food system.”
10% of all proceeds go to charity
Apart from helping customers make sustainable, cruelty-free and animal friendly choices, Hangry Planet also ensures that 10% of every sale is donated to numerous charities that support both animal and human rights, schools, orphanages, and impoverished communities globally via Moms Against Poverty.
