“We are ecstatic that our range of cheeses are now on the shelves at Waitrose, providing authentic dairy alternatives using traditional methods, but modern ingredients!”

The UK’s first vegan cheesemonger has rolled out a new supermarket range of its artisanal cheese recipes.

La Fauxmagerie has stocked its range in 20 select Waitrose stores with a nationwide rollout expected to happen shortly.

The London-based cheese brand- founded by sisters Charlotte and Rachel Stevens – has been developing artisanal cheeses for four years.

The new supermarket line, which includes ‘Shoreditch Smoked’, ‘Brixton Blue’ and ‘Truffle Camemvert’ represents a shift in consumer tastes and preferences, as well as the acceptance of vegan cheese on a mainstream level.

‘Ecstatic’

“We’ve spent years crafting and championing delicious, high-quality dairy-free cheeses.” the founders of La Fauxmagerie said in a statement to Vegan Food & Living.

“We are ecstatic that our range of cheeses are now on the shelves at Waitrose, providing authentic dairy alternatives using traditional methods, but modern ingredients!”

Sarah Miness, a Waitrose employee added: “We are delighted to bring artisanal vegan cheese brand, La Fauxmagerie to our shelves.

“The time, care and attention which is taken by the producers to create these great-tasting alternatives is simply extraordinary and the final product is absolutely delicious.”

 Demand for vegan cheese

The vegan cheese market has grown tremendously in the UK and worldwide.

According to a study published by Allied Market Research, the vegan cheese sector is expected to grow at a CAGR of 15.5 %– and will be a market worth $4,425.6million by 2027.

The study cites “growth in flexitarian and vegan population and rise in voice against animal slaughtering and concerns about their welfare are major attributes for the growth of the vegan cheese market during the forecast period.”

“Furthermore, lactose indolent and dairy allergic people are increasingly inclining toward the plant-based foods. As plant-based food products provide protein, vitamins, and carbohydrates like dairy products,” the study explained.

Companies including Bute Island Foods Ltd, GreenSpace Brands, violifefoods.com, Vtopian Artisan Cheeses., Chicago Vegan Foods, Gardener Cheese Company, Tofutti Brands Inc., Kite Hill, DAIYA FOODS INC., and Nush Foods were listed as key players operating in the vegan cheese market.
