We’ve all heard about the recently opened Hilton vegan suite in London right? It’s quite incredible, and certainly a giant leap towards the future.
But… hold the phone… have you heard of PlantLife? 2 vegan, environmentalist entrepreneurs have just launched their crowdfunding campaign and unveiled plans to open an entirely vegan, solar powered, luxury hotel nestled away on a tropical Thai island. And that’s just the start of it, but we’ll do our best to break it down.
The plans for this 5-star luxury paradise show 23 huge luxury villas on 19,200 sqm of coconut land (That’s roughly 3 premiere-league football pitches).
All the fabrics and materials used in this vegan oasis are natural, eco-friendly and organic – Bamboo, soybean & hemp fabrics, as well as pineapple and leaf leathers, will cover chairs, sofas, beds and floors. The on-site restaurant has a menu that ranges from raw fruit dishes to luxury Thai cuisine (https://www.plantlifehotel.com/restaurant).
The botanical tea library, looks, and sounds, like a place I want to live, forever.
What’s more, the entirety of the resort will be 100% solar powered – the panels are physically built into the designs of the villas (https://www.plantlifehotel.com/plansandstyle).
And last but not least… rescued animals. One hundred of them. All named after food. Roaming the entire oasis. All rescued from the local shelters and all adoptable. (Apart from the furry co-founders!) The design of the hotel gives you an authentic Thai experience, with the added value of cats, wherever you go.
The location for the proposed hotel sanctuary is on the Thai island, Koh Phangan. You may have heard about this island from a couple of viral videos; its reputation for being a vegan paradise is, in itself worth a visit. There are over 30 strict vegan restaurants on the island, rivalling the number of their meat-selling competitors.
This is the biggest crowd-sourcing campaign for a hotel ever launched – and they need thousands of people to make it a reality. The campaign goal is set at $870,000 USD. If the full amount isn’t reached, the campaign is closed and the money refunded to its backers. It’s a mammoth task, but we are confident in the strength and the noise of the vegan, environmentalist and animal loving community!
But don’t worry, the crowd funding isn’t asking for donations. They are asking for people to become PlantLife members. In exchange, these memberships offer pretty amazing perks and discounts, and best of all, they put you in the draw giving away 4 x 3-night stays to members every single week! Basically, it’s like the best eco/vegan lottery ever! And if you don’t win a stay, the money you would save from your membership discount (even if staying only a few days at PlantLife), will cancel out the membership cost itself. So it’s a win, win, win! On top of these great membership perks and whilst you wait for us to build PlantLife in order to redeem them, each membership purchase will send us out in the world, collecting bags of trash, volunteering at animal shelters, even giving away free vegan food to the public to show them how delicious and healthy vegan food can be!
Personally, I have never backed a crowdfunding campaign before, but this is something that I want to be a part of.
The campaign started on the 15th of March and will last for 60 days (May 14th 2019). This project could usher in a whole new era for travel and it shows the world the immense strength, size and determination of plant-based enthusiasts, the animal loving community and environmentalists around the world.
Let’s make this dream become a reality.
