The budget retailer says it expects the increase in demand for its plant-based products to continue in the subsequent months as well.

Aldi has revealed that sales of plant-based food were 500% higher this January in comparison to the same period last year.

Moreover, the growing plant-based trend is not isolated to Veganuary, Aldi reported more than 250% increase in 2021 for sales of its vegan range when compared with 2020.

According to the UK’s fifth largest supermarket, it expects the increase in demand for its plant-based products to continue even this year as it has expanded its plant-based range for Veganuary by 50% in response to demand.

Aldi’s range spans frozen, ready meals, bakery and confectionery. Moreover, Aldi’s Plant Menu line-up features products such as Spicy No Chicken Burger and No Pork Streaky Bacon. Furthermore, the retailer said its Plant Menu Vegan Blondies and Brownies were a hit with the shoppers this Veganuary.

The supermarket is one among a slew of retailers and eateries that have seen a plant-based boom this year during Veganuary.

This year more than 629,000 people from 228 countries and territories signed up making this the biggest Veganuary ever.

“Veganuary is getting bigger and bigger each year as the UK’s appetite and interest in plant-based food grows,” Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, said.

“In response to that demand we’re continuing to expand our vegan offering, giving our shoppers plenty of choice and all at great value.

“But it’s also a trend that we’re witnessing year-round and, as more and more people adopt this diet, we expect these products to remain popular throughout the year.”

Aldi’s Vegan cheese

As part of its plant-based expansion, Aldi recently launched its first own-label vegan cheese.

The dairy-free Mature Cheddar Block costs £1.39 for 200g and Grated Cheddar Pack retails at £1.39 for 150g. They’re made from coconut oil, and are also free from gluten and soy.

Aldi’s vegan valentine menu

Hailed for its comparatively low prices, the supermarket has also announced its affordable Valentine’s Day vegan dinner for two.

The Specially Selected range includes a main, side, and dessert for just £6.47.

First up on Aldi’s vegan Valentine’s Day menu is its Specially Selected Vegan Heart-Shaped Ultimate Burgers (£2.49).

You can team these heart-shaped patties with the supermarket’s Specially Selected Vegetable Medly (£1.99) for a tantalizing meal.

For dessert, the supermarket has you covered with its Specially Selected Vegan Chocolate Melt in the Middle Heart (£1.99) meant to make your Valentine’s day extra special.
