German collective group Gmbh and multinational sneaker giant Asics have collaborated to create a vegan hybrid trainer-cum-formal shoe called the GEL-CHAPPAL shoe.

The new distinctive design mixes formal and casual styles, specifically the criss-cross uppers of sandals, which have been inspired by the chappal, a traditional footwear style originating in India and popular in other South Asian countries, such as Pakistan.

Apart from the unconventional intersecting vegan leather uppers, the hybrid work shoe has an entire rubber lining and Asics’ signature GEL sole, designed to reduce impact and increase stability during movement.

The Berlin-based fashion label is aiming to create a fully circular production system by the year 2023 and 90% of all the materials it uses are organic, recycled, upcycled deadstock, and/or biodegradable.

The GmbH x ASICS GEL-CHAPPAL costs €215 (approximately $260) and can be bought online from Asics and Gmbh websites.
