Billie Eilish and her family went out to make Mother’s Day memorable for nurses and caretakers with flowers and vegan meals.
The Eilish family and members of the Support+Feed initiative celebrated Mother’s Day with nurses of Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital and inmates of Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Eilish along with her brother Finneas O’Connell, and their mom, Maggie Baird delivered vegan food, which included donuts from Donut Friend and burritos from plant-based eatery Cena Vegan, along with bouquets from DB Creativity to both locations.
‘You made a difference today’
The gesture was also to appreciate nurses as part of the ongoing ‘nurse appreciation week’.
After the deliveries, Maggie Baird took to Instagram to thank the ones who made the initiative successful.
She wrote: “The whole family and some of our core Support + Feed team (were out) for deliveries today to honor mothers and nurses for nurse appreciation week!”
“First to the downtown women’s center and then to the staff at MLK hospital.
“Thank you to everyone donating to Support + Feed who makes this possible! You made a difference today!”
‘Make life better for others’
In a separate post the singer’s mom also gave a shout out to all the volunteers of Support+Feed who “have put in so much time, and put aside their own fears to make life better for others.”
The Support+Feed program was launched by Billie Eilish’s mother Maggie Baird in Los Angeles in March to support vegan restaurants and the ones hit by the coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis
The campaign works by encouraging donors to pledge food orders from their favorite restaurants, which are then delivered to homeless people, food shelters, hospitals, senior centers, and women’s shelters.
The group has now extended its activities to New York City and Philadelphia to support and feed restaurants and workers hit hardest with the coronavirus pandemic.
While Support + Feed has partnered with Beyond Sushi, By CHLOE, and Marty’s V Burger in NYC, it has collaborated with six restaurants in Philadelphia, which include HipCityVeg, BarBombón, Charlie was a sinner., The Greyhound Cafe, Grindcore House, and Luhv Vegan Deli.
Explaining the benefits of the two-pronged initiative, Baird told Variety: “People need healthy food; restaurants need to stay alive, and these are the restaurants that serve the food that most benefits our planet’s health.”
