Eilish ‘seizes every opportunity to point out that vegan fashion and foods are kinder to the animals and the planet we share with them,’ said the charity.
Popstar Billie Eilish has been named ‘Person Of The Year 2021’ by PETA.
At the age of 19, the musician is the youngest-ever winner of the award.
According to the vegan charity, it awarded Eilish the accolade because she is ‘never staying silent about animal protection and for actively working to help animals’.
Billie Eilish and veganism
Eilish, who has been vegan since the age of 12, has actively used her platform to raise awareness about the impact of using animals for food and fashion.
Most recently, the singer/songwriter made her voice heard at the Met Gala, after she convinced fashion label Oscar de la Renta to stop using fur and agreed to wear a custom vegan silk-free gown in return.
This isn’t the only thing the teen-sensation has accomplished this year. Last month, she launched her first fragrance named “Eilish”. The perfume is vegan, cruelty-free, and made with clean ingredients.
Two days after her perfume’s release, Eilish released a vegan chocolate bar named after sophomore album, “Happier Than Ever.”
That’s not all for the Grammy winner. She also released vegan Air Jordans with Nike, creating the sneakers with 100% vegan leather.
‘Seizing every opportunity’
Ingrid Newkirk is PETA’s president. Commending Eilish for her efforts, she said: “Billie Eilish is making sure that the party’s over for meaty, milky meals as well as for leather, fur, and silk.
“PETA is happier than ever to celebrate her for seizing every opportunity to point out that vegan fashion and foods are kinder to the animals and the planet we share with them.”
The award has previously gone to Joaquin Phoenix, Pope Francis, Oprah Winfrey, and Anjelica Huston, among others.
