“As the demand for dairy-free alternatives continues to rise, we are proud to be one of the first traditional cheese brands creating plant-based alternatives of our much-loved products.”
This month, cheese brand Boursin, owned by dairy giant The Bel Group, which manufactures popular dairy products including Babybel and Laughing Cow, has launched a plant-based Boursin cheese spread at several popular retailers.
The Boursin Dairy-Free Cheese Spread Alternative Garlic & Herbs was created to meet flexitarian food trends and evolving consumer demands.
The newest creamy and spreadable product is flavored with a blend of garlic, parsley, and chives perfectly embodying “the original dairy Boursin Garlic & Fine Herbs signature taste.”
The vegan cheese was developed in partnership with international plant-based food brand, Follow Your Heart.
According to Boursin, the brand is helping Bel further its mission to become a major player in the healthy snack market – by diversifying its product portfolio to include fruit and plant-based products.
‘Plant-based food is booming’
“As the demand for dairy-free alternatives continues to rise, we are proud to be one of the first traditional cheese brands creating plant-based alternatives of our much-loved products,” Matt Barlow, brand director for Boursin said.
“Now more than ever, plant-based food is booming and we’re so excited to share this new innovation, making it easier for consumers with a wide range of dietary considerations to enjoy Boursin in a dairy-free version.”
Boursin Dairy-Free initially launched on Amazon Fresh in October 2020 and is now available in the deli section of major retailers nationwide, including Albertson’s Acme & East, Certco, Hannahord, HEB, Hyvee, Kroger and Sprouts, for the suggested retail price of $6.99.
Vegan options at Bel
Apart from the Boursin vegan cheese spread, parent company Bel Group is also working to release a vegan offering for each of its core brands.
According to the company, it has been pursuing a transformation strategy to conform to the “new food model” that prioritises health and eco-responsibility.
It is reportedly working to launch vegan Mini Babybel cheese in US supermarkets by this year while also developing a vegan alternative for The Laughing Cow.
In March, Bel Brands USA launched its first 100% plant-based brand, Nurishh to solidify ‘Bel’s mission to expand beyond dairy and diversify within the healthy snacking market to meet consumers’ needs.”
Nurishh is available as slices and shreds in six different varieties.
While the slices include cheddar, mozzarella, and provolone style blends the shreds come in cheddar, mozzarella, as well as a cheddar and mozzarella variants.
The range is expected to be available at Amazon Fresh and at select retailers later this month.
