The partnership formed to promote Meat Free Mondays will offer customers a free Vegan Royale worth £6.59.

Starting this week, Deliveroo customers can feast on a free Vegan Royale from Burger King as part of a Meat-Free Monday campaign.

The one-month offer on the food delivery service will run every Monday from August 9 to September 13, excluding Bank Holiday Monday.

It comes as Deliveroo tries to support the growing demand for plant-based food on its platform.

As part of the drive, Burger King fans who spend at least £15 at Burger King on the Deliveroo app will get a free Vegan Royale, which is worth up to £6.59.

The vegan burger features a crispy coated plant-based chicken, developed by The Vegetarian Butcher and is topped with iceberg lettuce, vegan mayo and served in a toasted sesame seed bun.

The burger is Vegan Society certified and is cooked on separate grills to avoid cross contamination with meat, dairy and egg products.

The offer is available across all 283 participating Burger King restaurants around the UK on the Deliveroo app.

Vegan demand on Deliveroo

Earlier this year, Deliveroo reported its vegan takeaway orders skyrocketing by 163% compared to last year.

Since then, the number of restaurants catering to vegans have also increased on the platform and searches for ‘vegan’ food in the app have spiked considerably.

Deliveroo plans to roll out several more promotions for plant-based dishes throughout the year in order to pique customer interest.

Plant-based options at Burger King

Burger King has been steadily increasing its presence in the plant-based fast-food sector.

Along with launching the Vegan Royale in April, Burger King UK also relaunched the plant-based Whopper, which was trialled in 2020, with a new recipe.

In addition, meat-free nuggets are ‘in the pipeline’.

According to the chain’s UK CEO Alasdair Murdoch, BK’s long-term plan is to incorporate its menu with at least 50% plant-based options by 2031 while phasing out some of its meat items.
