‘Burger King is offering a delicious plant-based alternative for all meat lovers who want to reduce their meat consumption’
Fast-food giant Burger King just launched plant-based ‘chicken’ nuggets in Germany to meet ‘the trend towards conscious nutrition’ and cater to the ‘growing number of guests who are increasingly relying on plant-based products’.
The chicken-less nuggets follow Burger King’s Rebel Whopper, which was released in 25 European countries last year.
‘Huge breakthrough’
The new nuggets as well as the plant patties for the rebel whopper are supplied by Holland-based brand The Vegetarian Butcher.
Announcing the news on Instagram, the Unilever owned brand wrote: “From now on, @Burgerkingde offers the Plant-based * Nuggets powered by The Vegetarian Butcher 0% meat throughout Germany. 100% taste.
“For us this is a huge breakthrough in our mission to become the greatest butcher in the world!”
‘Delicious with maximum taste’
Describing the nuggets, Hugo Verkuil, CEO of The Vegetarian Butcher said in a statement: “The Nuggets are soft and meat-like on the inside, crispy and golden on the outside and offer a delicious plant-based alternative for all meat lovers who want to reduce their meat consumption.
“We look forward to expanding our collaboration with our colleagues at Burger King.”
Klaus Schmäing, Director of Marketing for Burger King Germany, added: “In order to be able to offer guests and fans a very special taste experience, Burger King worked intensively on product development and acquired a strong partner in The Vegetarian Butcher.
“Burger King is the first to offer its guests the chance to try meat-free chicken. Of course, nobody has to forego the taste experience of the original: ‘Without meat’ in this case means ‘with maximum taste’.”
