“Our ambition [has been] to provide a wide range of products that work for everyone and the new Cadbury Plant Bar range is the latest stop on this journey.”
Cadbury has confirmed it is launching its first vegan chocolate bar in response to an “increasing public appetite for plant-based alternatives”.
The new dairy-free bar – called Plant Bar – is a vegan version of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk -one of the most popular chocolate bars in the UK.
The chocolate bar, which has been approved by The Vegan Society, will be available in two flavours: smooth chocolate and smooth chocolate with salted caramel pieces.
The chocolate maker took over two years to develop and perfect the recipe and said it has retained the creamy taste of its original Dairy Milk bars by swapping milk for almond paste.
According to reports, it will debut in Sainsbury’s stores from November with a wider roll out to other retailers from January 2022.
The Plant Bar will cost £2.50 for a 90g bar.
‘Evolving consumer demands’
Louise Stigant is the UK managing director of Mondelēz International, Cadbury’s parent company.
She said: “ With 500,000 participants in this year’s Veganuary – double the number of participants from the year before – the increasing public appetite for varied snacking options and plant-based alternatives has never been more apparent.
“At Mondelēz, evolving consumer demands have long informed our ambition to provide a wide range of products that work for everyone and the new Cadbury Plant Bar range is the latest stop on this journey.”
Ericka Durgahee, a marketing manager at the Vegan Society, added: “As we approach World Vegan Day on 1st November, the Vegan Society is thrilled that anyone who misses Cadbury chocolate as a vegan can now enjoy their favourite delicious chocolate bar without the use of animal products.
“We know how hard Mondelez has worked to bring this bar to life and give more options to everyone. We look forward to trying them when they launch!”
