The Hustlers star has supplied health drinks in partnership with OWYN, a vegan nutrition brand to support local medical professionals in New York City hospitals.
Even as the US braces for “the hardest and the saddest week of most Americans’ lives,” with the death toll from coronavirus in states such as New York, Michigan and Louisiana rising at an alarming rate, many are stepping up to help the overtaxed medical community.
Last week, rapper Cardi B donated 20,000 OWYN vegan protein shake bottles for the medical and ambulance crew of New York City hospitals.
According to TMZ, Cardi B “wanted to help the workers who, in most cases, don’t even get a chance to eat during their shifts.”
The OWYN plant-based shakes offer 20 grams of protein per bottle, and are a quick source of energy with ingredients such as a blend of superfood greens- kale, spinach, and broccoli, vegan omega 3, as well as fiber.
Only What You Need (OWYN)
The vegan nutrition company also announcing the donation on Instagram wrote: “During this time of crisis, we support all first responders and the entire medical community for the daily sacrifices they endure to preserve the health and safety of the entire community.
“We are committed to making sure that the frontlines of this fight have access to the best nutrition at all times to preserve their health, aid their immunity, and maintain their strength.
“That is why we have decided to donate thousands of bottles of OWYN to NYC area hospitals and clinics for their staff, patients and first responders.”
The brand also added in another post that it had “joined forces with like-minded brands to unite in efforts to help charitable organizations that have been affected by COVID-19.”
The plant nutrition company announced that during this month, it would be donating a percentage of its online sales to Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), an organization working to support Americans dealing with food allergies.
“OWYN is donating 2% of all online sales at www.liveowyn.com to our friends @foodallergy for the month of April because now more than ever, allergen-friendly resources need to be available to all despite the strains on the food system,” commented the company.
