The brand has reinvented its classic Wallabee and Desert Boot using sustainable uppers, linings and Forest Stewardship Council-certified rubber crepe soles.
British footwear brand Clarks has launched vegan versions of its iconic designs.
The range is called the ‘New Vegan Icons’ collection and features brown, beige, and black iterations of the high-ankled Desert Boot and the Wallabee with its distinctive moccasin-style seam around the upper edge of the toe box.
The shoes described as an ‘ethical update dedicated to a vegan lifestyle’ have been crafted in Portugal with non-animal derivative materials.
The Desert Boot is made using vegan leather uppers and lining with Forest Stewardship Council-certified rubber crepe soles.
The Wallabee combines “sustainably-sourced” and recycled materials along with an OrthoLite foam footbed.
In addition, each vegan pair features an exclusive fob and heel stamp as a declaration of the brand’s first vegan Icons Collection.
Vegan Clarks
Clarks has been in the shoe business for nearly 200 years and becomes one of the latest footwear giants to embrace the vegan trend, which has been burgeoning as more shoppers gravitate towards sustainable, eco-friendly and ethical options.
Other notable brands that have launched sustainable versions of their classic designs include Adidas, Doc Martens, and Vans.
Last month Crocs announced it will ditch leather and become completely vegan by the end of the year as part of its goal to become net-zero by 2030.
A market study report on Vegan Footwear Market by Future Market Insights revealed the industry was valued at $24.8 billion in 2020 and is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 7.2% for the next 10 years.
The new designs retail at £120 per pair and are available to purchase on Clarks Originals’ website.
