“One thing we know is that every second counts and every second we need to agitate for change. I want to be part of that.”
Ellie Goulding has been appointed a WWF ambassador in a bid to ‘speak up for our extraordinary planet’.
She joins the wildlife charity as it marks its 15th annual Earth Hour event on 26th March, in which the public are being asked to switch off their lights for 60 minutes.

The 35-year-old singer-songwriter has regularly used her platform to speak about climate change.
As a result of her work, Goulding was appointed UN Environment Global Goodwill Ambassador in 2017 and has fronted the WWF’s Earth Hour campaign since 2017.
She also accompanied climatologists to Greenland’s Jakobshavn glacier where she witnessed the rapid rate of ice loss first hand.
“I’m delighted to join WWF as an ambassador because I’m passionate about speaking up for our extraordinary planet,” she said.
“I know that the climate crisis and the destruction of nature can feel overwhelming at times, but I promise you when millions of people stand together, and demand change, the dial begins to shift.
“One thing we know is that every second counts and every second we need to agitate for change. I want to be part of that.”
‘Incredible advocate’
Tanya Steele is the chief executive of WWF-UK. She said: “We’re delighted to welcome Ellie as an ambassador at such a crucial time.
“She is an incredible advocate and will help us drive forward our work and raise awareness of the need for climate action.
“Earth Hour reminds us that when millions of people come together, small actions can make a big difference.
“When we make changes in our own lives to reduce our impact on the planet, we inspire those around us to do the same and, together, we are a powerful global movement that governments and businesses can’t ignore.”
Is Ellie Goulding vegan?
Goulding has been a vegetarian for many years.
In a 2018 interview with The Cut, the indie pop star said: “I’m trying to be a full vegan, I’ve been a vegetarian for six years. I was a vegetarian all the way through my teens as well. I’ll definitely never eat fish or meat again.”
She added: ” Once I fully understood where meat came from … I found that concept quite hard to live with. If you don’t need meat to survive, I don’t see why you have to have it”
However, according to Hello, in a following interview Goulding confessed to Jessie Ware on her Table Manners podcast about her new love of dairy.
She said: “I’m all about dairy….I’m not mad about coconut yoghurt and all those dairy-free alternatives.”
She added that she still consumes alt-dairy options. “In the morning, I’ll have a messy bowl which is yoghurt with lots of goji berries and nuts and I love prunes and dates.”
However, she reiterated that she is unlikely to eat red meat again.
