Kellogg’s hearty Liège-style variety has  21 g of plant protein per sandwich and will sell at a suggested RP of $8.49.

This month, Kellogg’s has announced its newest product on the block.

The brand is all set to release its first entirely vegan Eggo waffle in the US. The Belgian Liege-style waffle will feature vegan chicken from Morningstar Farms’ Incogmeato brand.

The plant-based sarnie will be rolling out to select retailers by the end of this year.

Each box will contain two waffle sandwiches, with 21 g of plant protein per sandwich and will sell at a suggested RP of $8.49.

“The collaboration is a match made in heaven and a win-win for all,” Joe Beauprez, Marketing Director for Eggo, told VegNews.

“With chicken and waffles already known and loved by waffle fans, we came together with MorningStar Farms to bring a plant-based twist on this classic dish to tables this year,” Beauprez added.

Kellogg’s plant-based trajectory

A longtime leader in meat alternatives, Kellogg’s recently split its business into three divisions with one of it dedicated to solely plant-based products. The other two are focusing on cereals and snacks.

The new plant-based company named Plant Co. will expand its MorningStar and Incogmeato brands, which Kellogg’s first acquired 20 years ago.

“Kellogg has been on a successful journey of transformation to enhance performance and increase long-term shareowner value,” Steve Cahillane, Kellogg Company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said at the time.

“These businesses all have significant standalone potential, and an enhanced focus will enable them to better direct their resources toward their distinct strategic priorities.  In turn, each business is expected to create more value for all stakeholders, and each is well positioned to build a new era of innovation and growth.”

Other products in the pipeline

The vegan chicken sandwich isn’t the only addition to the Ingomeato portfolio, Kellogg’s is also introducing a plant-Based Hot and Spicy Crispy Chik’n Filet.

According to the brand, the Hot Crispy Chik’n offers a juicy inside with a crispy, crunchy exterior.

The product will be sold in packages of four filets, with each filet containing 29% less fat than conventional chicken filets (12 g total fat per serving vs. 8 g), and 17 g of plant protein.

“The MorningStar Farms team is constantly working to introduce more plant-based options for the growing flexitarian communities,” Danielle Rappoport, marketing director of the plant-based protein category, told VegNews.
