“After three decades of cooking, hundreds and hundreds of thousands of hours behind the stove, I’m turning vegan.”

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay recently told his fans that he has ‘turned Vegan’.

The outspoken chef made the announcement to his 11.5 million Instagram followers in a cooking tutorial video that showed how to cook a vegan steak using aubergine.

The 54-year-old, who is known for his love for meat, fits of dining rage and culinary insults, started the video saying: “Hi guys, it’s Gordon. I’ve got a confession.

“After three decades of cooking, hundreds and hundreds of thousands of hours behind the stove, I’m turning vegan.”

He then gave a minute-long demonstration of his vegan- steak recipe, which showed him preparing a steak rub – in a saute pan by toasting cumin seed, mustard seed, peppercorn medley, and other spices.

He also charred the eggplant and seasoned it with the rub and oil.

Next, he prepared the jus – in a wide-bottom saucepan, added vegan-butter, soy sauce, and seasonings to taste.

Ramsay then plated the dish and garnished it with steakhouse mushrooms and creamy garlic mash, as well as a caramelized Veggie Demi Glaze.

After showing the recipe, Ramsay reversed the demo and repeated that he is going vegan before adding: “Just for lunch – only.”

‘Try vegan for a whole month‘

Fans were quick to respond to the video, with some happy that the change was temporary.

“Thank God… Only for lunch,” commented one Instagram user.

Another added: “You scared me for a second! But it looks amazing!!!!”

A third wrote: “I was thinking “okay Gordon, which bet did you lose to Gino this time?”

However, others like WeareVenguary encouraged the chef for taking the step: “Now that’s right up our street Gordon! Hit us up if you’re ready to try vegan for a whole month!”

Vegan chef Gaz Oakley aka Avant Garde Vegan wrote: “Want to try my vegan scotch egg for your next vegan lunch? “

PETA also commented saying: “We see you going #vegan FOR REAL soon. You already know how easy it is to transform plants into delicious vegan meals// This eggplant steak has everyone like..”
