The raging success of the Greggs vegan sausage roll has led sales at the budget baker to skyrocket.
And now the UK business is set to capitalise on its success by opening 100 new stores in the rest of this year alone.
Greggs already has nearly 2,000 locations, and while other high street food businesses struggle the bakery’s fortunes continue to improve.
“The launch of the now famous vegan-friendly sausage roll took this to another level, with initial demand significantly outstripping our expectations,” Chief Executive Roger Whiteside said.
“The product has remained extremely popular with customers and is now one of our top sellers, demonstrating the demand for greater dietary choice in food-on-the-go.”
Greggs has already opened 54 more stores this year, meaning vegans across the country will be able to get their hands on the sensational plant-based roll, and still plans to add 100 more.
Sales at Greggs increased by 14.7% to £546million this year with pre-tax profits up 52% at £36.7million.
“Greggs has delivered an exceptional first half performance,” Whiteside continued.
“Given the strength of our year to date and the outlook, we have decided to increase investment in strategic initiatives in the second half of the year.”
The Greggs breakfast on-the-go has also become a popular addition, with the budget business now the third most popular coffee takeaway in the UK.
“We have just opened our fourth drive-through location in Newcastle upon Tyne and continue to work with partners to bring Greggs to other travel catchments such as railway stations, road and motorway services, and airports,” Whiteside added.
