A Greggs spokesperson said the new vegan items will be trialled in a very small number of shops, with a wider launch planned for later in the year.
British high-street favourite, Greggs, has confirmed it is adding two new vegan items to its menu.
The bakery giant will be launching a meat and dairy-free Vegan Ham and Cheeze Baguette and also a Vegan Sausage Breakfast Roll in the coming weeks.
According to reports, the sausage bread roll will feature sausages made with Quorn mycoprotein – and will retail from £1.90.
Meanwhile, the ham and ‘cheeze’ baguette will retail at £2.95 featuring ham made with Quorn mycoprotein and cheddar flavoured vegan cheese slices.
Although Greggs has not revealed an official release date yet, popular food account Vegan Food UK posted an image of a release document with details of the baguette product.
We get a lot of inside info about various launches, but will only post when we have photo evidence…which we do for this one’, the account reported.
In another post, the organization posted a picture of a roll of stickers reading ‘Vegan Sausage’ along with a representative image of a sausage breakfast roll.
Launch
It is said that Greggs will be testing the two new menu items at selected stores initially before rolling out the items in a nationwide launch.
“Over the coming weeks we’ll be trialling our delicious Vegan Ham and Cheeze Baguette and Vegan Sausage Breakfast Roll in a very small number of shops, with a wider launch planned for later in the year,” a Greggs spokesperson told Metro.co.uk.
Vegan options at Greggs
Greggs’ newest options come after a vegan sausage roll skyrocketed sales for the British bakery two years ago.
Greggs saw its sales increased by 14.7% that year with pre-tax profits up 52%.
It has since added other vegan options including a steak bake, and donut.
According to Greggs’ chief executive, Roger Whiteside, the eatery chain is working on creating new vegan alternatives to all its best-selling products.
