British bakery giant, Greggs has started rolling out its new Vegan Ham and Cheeze Baguette across the UK following a ‘successful’ trial.

The news was announced by Vegan Food UK after its team spotted the baguette in stores.

The baguette contains Quorn ham and Violife cheese. It costs £2.95 cold and £3.20 if heated.

Verdict

The baguette release post ensured a social media frenzy and many Greggs fans already had a verdict after trying it firsthand.

One user commented: “It’s already out. I nabbed one today so delicious when heated up!!”

“I can confirm it’s delicious,” another said.

“It’s lovely and tasty with a dash of vegan mayo,” a third added.

Food blogger Veegboi gave a detailed review of the aesthetics, texture, taste, and price after sampling out the baguette.

“When heated, it’s got that perfectly melted ‘cheese’ oozing out which is dreamy although it doesn’t appear to be overflowing with filling,” Veegboi said.

“When cold, you could see the thick slices of ‘cheese’ and the ham poking out – you could definitely see the filling more.”

He praised the texture describing it as ‘a crunchy outer and a soft fluffy inner’ with soft but meaty wafer thin ham slices and a gooey melted cheese that doesn’t stick to your teeth.

According to the food blogger the taste was ‘fanstastic ‘ but he would’ve liked a bit of tomato or mayo for extra flavour.

Vegan items at Greggs

Greggs’ first vegan launch skyrocketed its profits in 2019. Its iconic sausage roll continues to be a crowd favourite.

The other vegan offerings include a steak bake and donut.

Moreover, Greggs is continuously working on releasing new vegan offerings. A breakfast version of its famous sausage roll is rumoured to be the next one in line.

CEO Roger Whiteside has also claimed that plant-based chicken could soon be on the menu.
