Iceland has unveiled its ‘green’ Christmas range that is not only vegan but also free from plastic and palm oil.
The UK supermarket will offer tasty finger food such as the No Bull Burger Sliders, which are mini plant-based cheeseburgers made from plant-protein and No Duck Spring Rolls made from jackfruit, vegetables, and hoisin sauce.
The Tempura Vegetable Selection consists of cooked baby corn, green beans, courgette, and pumpkin pieces in a crispy tempura batter. The No Duck Chinese Selection features sweet plum gyoza, hoisin pastry cones, and Szechuan filo crackers.
Iceland’s Christmas vegan dessert will include snowflake-shaped puddings called No Moo Chocolate Snowflakes that have a hard dairy-free chocolate casing and a gooey center.
Plastic Free
After the British supermarket chain promoted palm oil free products last Christmas, the brand has announced that this year it also intends to minimize plastic from most of its festive offerings.
Speaking about the initiative, Iceland MD Richard Walker told The Grocer: “For me it was important it wasn’t just a token selection, so whilst it’s fairly limited in number – about 30 lines – you can have the full Christmas day by choosing these products from cheese to starters, trimmings etcetera.”
This year’s plastic-free theme follows Iceland’s commitment last year to remove plastic from all own-label lines by 2023 after it became the first supermarket in the UK to remove palm oil from its own-label products.
