“We wanted to just continue to extend ourselves and to help the broader community. That’s what we do.”

Celebrity musician and social advocate Jaden Smith will be donating vegan hygiene products for homeless residents in Skid Row, Los Angeles.

Smith is joined by his mom Jada Pinkett Smith, who owns personal care brand – Hey Humans.

The mother-son duo has teamed up with The ReFresh Spot, an organization that provides Skid Row residents with 24-hour access to showers, restrooms, laundry and other supportive services for the product donation drive.

Under the Hey Humans x the ReFresh Spot program, the Smiths will make monthly donations of Hey Humans vegan products such as body wash, toothpaste, lotion, and more to support the organization’s efforts.

“I’m so pleased to be a part of bringing together Hey Humans and The ReFresh Spot, which helps so many residents of Skid Row find comfort in their day-to-day challenges,” Smith told PEOPLE in an interview.

“Helping support my mom and her vision while providing dignity and self-confidence through personal hygiene is what this partnership is all about.”

‘Help the broader community’

Smith also met with The ReFresh Spot program director Evan Clark to learn more about how the organization works and the impact of the initiative on the community members.

Hey Humans posted a clip of the meeting on social media, which shows Smith getting a tour of The ReFresh Spot’s L.A. location.

In the end, a visibly excited Smith told Clark that he would call his mom to let her know about the success of the initiative.

“This is like a family thing for us, for my mom and our whole family. We wanted to just continue to extend ourselves and to help the broader community. That’s what we do,” Smith said.

He added that he has more ideas now about how to support the homeless community of Skid Row.
