JUST has announced plans to debut its newest chicken nuggets prepared from cultivated meat that eliminates the need to kill animals.
JUST, the US vegan food business that has made plant-based mayonnaise and vegan eggs is now ready with its cell-based chicken nugget formula.
The company uses cellular agriculture to harvest animal cells in a nutrient-rich liquid medium of salts, sugars, and amino acids. The cell culture is then incubated in a bioreactor to allow cells to grow into animal protein.
The cultured chicken product takes around two weeks to mature in a bioreactor informs the brand.
The nuggets cost $50 each and are ready for small-scale commercialization but the brand is waiting for regulators to approve the process.
In a statement to VegNews, Andrew Noyes, JUST’s head of global communications, said: “We are working with regulators in several countries on a pathway to market although we have not disclosed which ones.
“We are prepared to make our first small-scale commercial sale of a chicken product and we have heard from restaurateurs who are interested in being among the first in the world to offer cultured meat on their menus.”

Just Inc’s next slaughter free meat product will be wagyu beef.
