Kylie Jenner has come under fire after customers claimed her line of so-called ‘vegan’ beauty range contained animal products, but were the accusations correct?
The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner family launched her Kylie Skin range recently and claimed that ‘everything is cruelty free, vegan, gluten free, paraben and sulfate free’.
But suspicious customers noticed some suspect ingredients in the Vanilla Milk Toner, which costs $22, and the Foaming Face Wash, which costs $24.
The two products, as revealed on her website, contain squalane and hydroxyacetophenone.
Customers complained about the ingredients on social media, claiming the new beauty line was not vegan, as promised.
However, the two ingredients may have been confused with other similarly named compounds.
3-Hydroxyacetophenone is a product derived from badgers, but Kylie skin actually contains 4-hydroxyacetophenone which is derived from berries, according to reports.
And it seems squalane, which is a natural oil derived from plants and helps hydrate skin, was confused with squalene, which is derived from shark liver oil, meaning both products appear to be vegan.
Keen vegan customers will have to wait for official confirmation. Kylie Jenner’s makeup line is not yet vegan certified, as it was only released on May 22 and can take several weeks to be fully tested.
