‘We look at developing the next phase of delicious, innovative, plant-based products for all to enjoy’
Plant-based company Laird Superfood secured a $10,000,000 funding from French food giant Danone through its investment arm Danone Manifesto Ventures (DMV).
Laird Superfood- a five-year-old company was founded by serial entrepreneur Paul Hodge, big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton, and his wife Gabby Reece, a former professional volleyball player.
The vegan brand currently sells vegan creamer enriched with medium chain triglycerides (MCT) oils, coconut water powder, coconut sugars, and hot chocolate powder with functional mushrooms-blends in more than 4,000 U.S. retail stores, such as Costco and Whole Foods.
According to Laird Superfood, the new capital will be directed towards developing new vegan products, growing the brand’s reach and expanding production at its manufacturing campus in Sisters, Oregon.
“The growth of Laird Superfood has been a result of our company’s focus on functional, convenient, better-tasting products, while staying authentic to our Co-founder Laird Hamilton’s uncompromising standards of quality and ingredients,” said CEO Paul Hodge
Powerful brand
“We are confident that Laird Superfood’s commitment to a healthy lifestyle and the quality of their functional products and ingredients will continue to appeal to consumers and retailers,” said DMV CEO Laurent Marcel.
“Laird Superfood is a powerful brand with a unique story, and we are excited about our ability to seal this partnership, particularly in the current global environment.
“We believe it will result in future success with a foundation of mutual trust and shared values.”
“I’m so grateful to have such a strong, philosophically aligned partner like DMV on board as we look at developing the next phase of delicious, innovative, plant-based products for all to enjoy,” added Hamilton.
Danone Manifesto Ventures
Apart from Laird Superfoods, DMV has invested in several innovative food and food technology companies focused on health and sustainability, including dairy-free yogurt maker Hälsa, and Forager Project, which has since unveiled a range of new products.
