Food Innovations without harming the planet

Commenting on his role as a SHAC member, DiCaprio:  “A full-fledged response to climate change must bring innovation to all aspects of our daily lives – including to the foods we consume,”.

“Perfect Day’s forward-looking vision offers a new model for reducing the impact that our diets have on the planet.

“I’m pleased to be part of their advisory council and work together to support our shared urgent environmental mission.”

‘Sustainable options for people around the world’

Ryan Pandya, the co-founder, and CEO at Perfect Day added: “We began Perfect Day with a mission to create a kinder, greener tomorrow. Our mission is urgent, and the direction of this group will help us maximize our impact.

“Leonardo DiCaprio and our other Council members share our passion and hunger to combat the climate crisis and foster a global food system that prioritizes nutrition equity.

“Together, we’ll work to bring more nutritious, scalable, and sustainable options to people around the world.”

Perfect Day

California startup Perfect Day was founded in 2014. It uses microflora and fermentation processes to produce proteins virtually identical to dairy.

Its ingenious animal-free protein is applicable across a range of products from ice cream and milk to cheese and butter where it adapts to deliver the same taste and texture of dairy without the environmental, animal welfare, or food safety concerns.

The start-up’s proprietary ‘flora-made’ dairy protein is being used by several companies to develop vegan versions of their traditional dairy product lines including Brave Robot, Graeter’s, and N!ck’s.

The company has experienced tremendous growth in the last years. In 2020, the start-up was named as the industry leader in fermented foods, it raised $300M in Series C funding and also opened a production facility and office space in Berkeley.
