Lewis Hamilton has been actively supporting the BLM movement fighting for racial equality.
The Formula One champion, who often uses his platform for animal advocacy has been throwing his weight behind the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests.
In the latest of a series of impassioned contributions to the Black Lives Matters movement, Hamilton posted images of the street mural in Washington, leading to the White House, which reads ‘Black Lives Matter’.
He captioned the post: “And don’t you forget it. #blacklivesmatter #endracism.”
‘I support this’
He also applauded Bristol anti-racist demonstrators, who downed the 125-year-old memorial of Edward Colston before throwing it into the harbour.
Colston was a slave trader, who amassed his fortune from the slave trade in the late 1600s.
Posting a video of the event, he wrote: “I do not condone violence or criminal acts but you have had plenty of time to do this yourselves and haven’t. power to the people✊?.”
“He never should’ve had a statue.
“I’m proud of the activists and organizers in Bristol, in the United Kingdom, who tore this down.
“Tear them all down. Everywhere.
“I support this.”
‘Must Stop’
In the wake of the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis Lewis Hamilton wrote: “I am completely overcome with rage at the sight of such blatant disregard for the lives of our people. The injustice that we are seeing our brothers and sisters face all over the world time and time again is disgusting, and MUST stop.
“Unfortunately, America is not the only place where racism lives and we continue to fail as humans when we cannot stand up for what is right. Please do not sit in silence, no matter the colour of your skin. Black Lives Matter.”
