“PETA is honoring the superstars who are leading by example and proving that helping animals can be as simple as whipping up jackfruit enchiladas or buying a vegan lipstick.”
Lizzo and Selena Gomez have been named winners at PETA’s 15th annual Libby Awards for promoting veganism.
According to the vegan charity, the annual Libby- short for animal liberation- awards aim to recognize individuals, products, and brands that go above and beyond for animals.
Lizzo won the Favorite Vegan Cooking Video prize for her TikTok recipe videos, which also included an entire vegan Thanksgiving dinner.
Selena won the Favorite Vegan Makeup Line for Rare Beauty cruelty-free beauty collection.
Brands that won prizes included Adidas for its SUPEREARTH superstar sneakers, Miyoko’s for its cultured vegan farmhouse cheddar slices, and Dairy queen for its non-dairy Dilly bars.
Each of the winners will receive a framed certificate. Other 2020 nominees included Billie Eilish, Kesha, Lili Reinhart, Tabitha Brown, Malia Baker, Haile Thomas, and Ethan Dolan.
‘Leading by example’
“These compassionate celebrities didn’t let the pandemic stop them from walking the walk when it comes to kindness to animals,” PETA Senior Director of Youth Programs Marta Holmberg said.
“PETA is honoring the superstars who are leading by example and proving that helping animals can be as simple as whipping up jackfruit enchiladas or buying a vegan lipstick.”
