Markle revealed a member of the royal family had concerns about her son Archie’s skin tone being ‘too dark’ before he was born.
In a gripping interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have made some ‘jaw-dropping’ revelations about their lives before stepping down as senior royals.
The couple, who moved to the US in order to ‘live authentically’ and get back ‘down to basics’ invited Winfrey to their $14.5 million mansion in Montecito, CA, and sat down to a tell-all interview with the talk show host.
‘I just didn’t want to be alive anymore’
During the interview, Markle opened up on issues like racial discrimination and mental health concerns while living as a working royal in the UK.
She revealed that a member of the royal family raised ‘concerns’ about ‘how dark’ Archie’s skin would be before he was born.
The former Suits actor added that the stress perpetuated by living in the royal family at the time deteriorated her mental health to an extent that she started contemplating committing suicide.
“I was really ashamed to say it at the time, and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry especially, because I know how much loss he has suffered, but I knew that if I didn’t say it, that I would do it – and I just didn’t want to be alive anymore,” she revealed.
‘Getting back to basics’
The couple, who are now expecting their second child revealed that moving to California has allowed them to lead a more authentic and enriching life.
“I think just being able to live authentically [has been the most important thing],” Meghan said.
“This kind of stuff is so basic, but it’s really fulfilling and about getting back to basics.”
Markle and rescued animals
While the interview took place at a neighbour’s home, the couple gave Winfrey and the viewers a tour of their backyard, which houses a coop for chickens rescued from a nearby factory farm with a sign that reads “Archie’s Chick Inn, Established 2021.”
Markle, who “loves rescuing” also has dog Guy rescued from a kill shelter in Kentucky.
Does Meghan follow a vegan lifestyle?
While the 39-year-old has never declared being a vegan, according to the insider, Markle is strict with her vegan diet on most days and will sometimes have ‘cheat days’, but intends to raise Archie on a fully plant-powered lifestyle.
She also became an investor in the California-based vegan startup Clevr Brands– which makes oat milk-based latte mixes.
Commenting on the investment, Markle said at the time: “This investment is in support of a passionate female entrepreneur who prioritises building community alongside her business.”
