In time for World Vegan Day (November 1st), Marks & Spencer have announced that their own-brand wine range will be fully vegan by 2022.
While 70% of M&S brand wines are currently vegan, with the company having had wines labelled as vegetarian-friendly since 1998 and vegan since 2005, they plan to convert to a 100% vegan wine range by switching to a plant-based filtration agent such as pea protein in place of traditional non-vegan ingredients such as gelatine, isinglass, and egg whites.

M&S Winemaker Sue Daniels said, “We’ve made this commitment as part of our overall aim to make M&S products more relevant to more customers and to take action to reflect their changing dietary demands.
“Obviously, such a large-scale commitment isn’t without its challenges – however we have been working on alternatives with winemakers for several years and have already seen radical changes in more traditional areas such as France and Spain. We will be supporting the rest of our partner wineries every step of the way towards this goal.”
M&S have also this year increased their offerings of vegan food products, launching their Plant Kitchen range with dishes such as Cauliflower Popcorn Bites and Cashew Mac and Cheese.
