“I realised the extent of the damage done to dolphins in captivity. You can either turn a blind eye or become educated and spread the word so everyone else is aware.”

English singer and television personality Peter Andre has apologized for a recent controversial family video he posted to his YouTube channel.

The star, who is known for his love for animals, received backlash when he shared a clip showing his daughter Princess swimming with dolphins during a family holiday in Portugal.

The video prompted vegan charity PETA to send the reality star a letter apprising him of the cruelties of the ‘swim with dolphin’ programs and the misery these animals face in captivity.

Admitting that he was ‘unaware’, the Mysterious Girl singer took to Instagram to tell his 1.7 million followers that he would re-edit the video so that ‘anyone can enjoy the video without having to see any dolphins in captivity’.

‘We’re always learning’

In his latest column for new! the father-of-four admitted he realized his mistake after being informed about the treatment of dolphins in these enclosures.

The 48-year-old wrote: “It was a case of Peter vs PETA recently after I revealed I had edited footage of Princess swimming with dolphins in Portugal when I was contacted by them.

“The animal rights group weren’t necessarily having a go – just trying to get the point across about what goes on with dolphins in captivity.

“ Initially, I just thought, ‘wouldn’t this be a brilliant experience for my daughter as it’s her dream?'”

He added: “But when PETA sent me a letter, I realised the extent of the damage done to dolphins in captivity. You can either turn a blind eye or become educated and spread the word so everyone else is aware.

“At the end of the day, we’re always learning and I’m not going to get everything right every time.

“I’ll make sure I’ll continue to make mistakes, but I’ll try not to make the same ones twice.”
