Pizza Hut is trialling plant-based meat toppings in the US to test out the demand for vegan alternatives.
The pizza giant has launched a limited time offer in one of its Phoenix restaurants, which will stock the Garden Speciality Pizza – featuring meat-free Italian sausage from MorningStar Farms, onions, mushrooms and banana peppers.
Wendy Davidson, Kellogg Away from Home President, said in a statement: “IncogmeatoTM is a new-to-the-world brand created to challenge convention on delicious plant-based food.
“Pizza Hut is the innovation leader in its category and we are excited to partner with them to develop a tasty, first-ever plant-based pizza to satisfy what flexitarians are seeking today.”
Sustainable
Pizza Hut is also attempting to make its packaging more sustainable, and the Garden Speciality will be served in a round box which consists of less packaging material and is compostable.
The pizza will cost $10 from Pizza Hut at 3602 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, and all proceeds will be donated to sustainability company Arizona Forward.
Vegan Pizza Hut
Pizza Hut has been upping its vegan game across the world to meet public demand.
The chain expanded its vegan menu in the UK this month with a new selection of pizzas, desserts and sides.
The pizza giant added a new Vegan Mushroom pizza which features tomato sauce, Violife Vegan Ch**se , topped with closed cup mushrooms and garlic mushrooms.
The mushroom pizza is the fifth Pizza on the Pizza Hut Vegan Menu, joining the Vegan Margherita, Vegan Veggie, Vegan Hot ‘N’ Spicy Veg and the Vegan BBQ Jack ‘N’ Ch**se.
