PETA has awarded Rihanna for her new FENTY line, which showcases ‘chic and cruelty-free vegan clothing that is both animal-friendly and better for the planet.’
Rihanna won PETA’s ‘Compassion in Fashion award’ for her new jaw-dropping vegan leather clothing line- Fenty.
The singer and fashion entrepreneur launched a faux-leather, cruelty-free capsule collection featuring a slightly oversized shirt, a pair of high-waisted trousers with combat pockets, a drawstring hoodie, along with an iconic corset dress and skirt.
According to the diva, the five-piece collection was inspired “by utility wear and uniforms,” where “the tough, protective connotations of leather and striking silhouettes of uniforms are combined with the soft, rippling faux leather to give a relaxed FENTY feel – this juxtaposition speaks to the FENTY DNA of contrasts, rebelliousness, and redefined luxury.”
Lauding the latest collection, PETA wrote on twitter: “She proves that #VeganFashion can make you shine bright like a diamond!
“Thank you, Rihanna for showing compassion with your leather-free Fenty collection.”
Clothing better for animals and the planet
A statement on PETA’s website further adds that Rihanna’s new FENTY completely leather free capsule collection shows off “chic and cruelty-free vegan clothing that is both animal-friendly and better for the planet.”
PETA Director Elisa Allen said: “Rihanna should take a bow for this stunning animal-friendly collection.
“With her new vegan collection, Rihanna shows how easy it is to create a killer look that no animal had to die for.”
The charity also mentioned other celebrities, including Serena Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Rooney Mara, RZA, and Jessica Simpson that recently launched cruelty free designs using vegan materials.
Last month, Serena Williams launched her S by Serena Spring 2020 – a vegan leather line as a tribute to her various travels across the world.
The collection includes dresses, pantsuits, and jumpsuits in bold prints and vibrant colours made from animal free materials.
“I feel like a lot of things are being killed and we’re not saving the earth,” she told ESSENCE at the time.
“We can all just do one small thing and help out so that was also a lot of our inspiration.”
