Major supermarkets have been forced to recall a long list of products which are advertised as vegan, but have been discovered to contain milk.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) reported numerous products which cause a potential danger to the health of people with lactose intolerance or allergies.

The news will also anger vegans, who avoid any items which contain animal products.

Morrisons, Lidl, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s have all been forced to apologise after the FSA found milk in supposedly dairy-free items, listed below.

Morrisons

At Morrisons some of the Chinese Takeaway Chicken Curry and Sweet & Sour Chicken, Chinese Takeaway Chicken in Black Bean Sauce and Sweet & Sour Chicken were recalled.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: “Morrisons is recalling its Chinese Takeaway Chicken Curry & Sweet & Sour Chicken and Chinese Takeaway Chicken in Black Bean Sauce & Sweet & Sour Chicken products because they contain milk which is not mentioned on the label.

“This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.”

The recall affects Morrisons Chinese Takeaway Chicken Curry and Sweet & Sour Chicken with a pack size of 1245g and use by date of March 4, 2019, March 5, 2019 and March 6, 2019.

It also affects the Chinese Takeaway Chicken in Black Bean Sauce and Sweet & Sour Chicken with a pack size of 1245g and use by March 4, 2019, March 5, 2019 and March 6, 2019.

Morrisons said in a statement: “We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.”

Waitrose

At Waitrose, certain products from ‘healthy snack bar’ company Graze were recalled.

The FSA said: “Graze is recalling Sea Salt & Vinegar Veg Crunchers because it has been incorrectly labelled as suitable for vegans, however the product contains milk.

“This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.”

The recall affects Graze Sea Salt & Vinegar Veg Crunchers in pack sizes of 26g,

Batch codes 426938, 426559, 427156 with best before dates June 20, June 28 and July 2 2019 were affected.

Graze said in a statement: “The health & safety of our customers is of the utmost importance to us at graze. We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.”

Lidl

Lidl recalled certain Sondey Orange Jaffa Cakes and Sondey Jaffa Minis products.

The FSA said: “Lidl is recalling Sondey Orange Jaffa Cakes and Sondey Jaffa Minis, (Orange Assortment) because they contain milk which is not mentioned on the label.

“This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.”

The recall affects the 300g pack sizes of Sondey Orange Jaffa Cakes, with best before dates of January 1, 2019, February 1, 2019, March 1, 2019, April 1, 2019, May 1, 2019, June 1, 2019, July 1, 2019 and August 1, 2019.

The recall also affects the 125g pack sizes of Sondey Jaffa Minis (Orange Assortment), with best before dates of July 1, 2019, August 1, 2019 and November, 1 2019.

Lidl added: “Lidl GB wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“Any customers with queries or concerns can contact customer services on 0370 444 1234.”

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s was forced to recall some of its Mango Sorbet products.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: “Sainsbury’s is recalling Mango Sorbet because it contains traces of milk which is not mentioned on the label.

“This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.”

The recall affects 500ml packs with a best before date of November 2019.

Sainsbury’s said: “It has been brought to our attention that the above product may contain traces of milk. We are asking customers who have purchased this product and may have an allergy or an intolerance to milk, to return it to their nearest Sainsbury’s store, where they will receive a full refund.”
