A star-studded gala hosted by Mercy for Animals has raised $2 million funds for animal rights causes – the highest ever in the organization’s history.
The 20th anniversary gala for the animal-rights organization was held at the historic Shrine Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles.
MFA founder Milo Runkle and president Leah Garcés led the fundraising round at the black tie event in front of an elite selection of vegan celebrities and animal rights activists.
Joaquin Phoenix, Kevin Smith, Kat Von D, Daniella Monet, Moby, and Diane Warren, as well as Paul Wesley, Joseph Morgan, Persia White, Cassandra Peterson, Davey Havok, Sarah Jeffery, Matt Lauria, and Redfoo all attended to lend their support.
The star-studded awards show honored animal activists for their contributions in the animal world.
Vegan entrepreneur Kat Von D was presented the Hope Award.
Marco Borges, New York Times bestselling author of The Greenprint and founder of 22 Days Nutrition, received the Global Impact Award.
Lindsay Oliver, a former undercover investigator and MFA’s current vice president of investigations, collected the Hidden Hero Award.
Late animal-rights advocate Rena Roseman was remembered with the Legacy Award.
The guests were treated to a four-course meal catered by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck that included a signature dish by Kite Hill; plant based appetizers, gourmet vegan dinner, cocktails and a decadent dessert, followed by an after party.
