With Easter around the corner, Asda, Morrisons, and Holland & Barrett have launched succulent, mouth watering vegan treats to sweeten the festive season.
While Asda launched its Extra Special Free-From Dark Chocolate Egg with Vanilla Truffles, Morrisons launched its exclusive Free From Easter Eggs, which includes salted caramel, and white chocolate with a raspberry twist.
Asda’s Easter egg also won ‘best egg’ in Good Housekeeping’s blind taste test where panelists “couldn’t get enough of the melt-in-the-mouth chocolate with hidden crunchy cocoa nibs, and loved the deliciously gooey truffles that come with it.”
The vegan eggs scored 80 out of 100 and knocked out British vegan brand Booja-Booja that claimed the top spot for three years.
The testers tasted 31 different eggs, of which most were dairy-based.
The panelists were so drawn to the vegan egg’s flavor that they kept coming back for more.
“The flavor is beautifully balanced with a fruity finish and the gooey truffles have a creamy consistency. So delicious, testers kept coming back for more,” said a spokesperson of the Good Housekeeping Institute.
Holland & Barrett
Not far behind is Holland & Barrett, the popular health and wellness retailer, which launched its largest vegan Easter range across all of its 790 stores in the UK.
The high-street retailer is selling 15 new branded lines, which include Easter eggs from Divine, NOMO, So Free, Buttermilk, and its own-label favourites. The goodies start selling at just 99p.
The company has also created a vegan version of the much-loved British Easter treat- Mini Eggs called Doisy & Dam’s Good Eggs, and a vegan alternative to Cadbury’s popular Cremé Egg called Mummy Meagz Vegan Chuckie Egg.
The Daily Mirror reported Seasonal Buyer at Holland & Barrett Molly King, stating: “We’re over the moon to be bringing the UK high street our largest ever vegan offering this Easter.
“We at Holland & Barrett believe that being plant-based shouldn’t ever mean missing out on taste or excitement, especially when it comes to chocolate.
“We know that traditional Easter staples, such as crème and mini eggs, are perfect snacking for every age so we are hoping to see similar success for our vegan alternatives as we continue to cater and expand for the ever-growing demand of plant-based eaters.”
