The woman identified as Sarah Moulds has also been suspended from her job as a school teacher and team organizer at a local Pony Club after the viral footage sparked outrage.
A primary school teacher, who was filmed kicking and hitting a horse has gone into hiding following death threats.
Sarah Moulds, 37, is reportedly in fear for her life after footage emerged of her pounding a distressed horse.
Meanwhile, an RSPCA investigation is underway.
The footage has also prompted school authorities to suspend the woman from her job at Somerby Primary School.
She has also been removed from her role as a team organiser of the Pony Club- one of the world’s largest equestrian organisations for young people.
The group’s spokesperson said: “We are aware of the video circulating showing unacceptable treatment of a pony and we wholeheartedly condemn this behaviour.
“The welfare of horses and ponies is of the utmost importance to The Pony Club, therefore the lady in question has been removed from her voluntary position as a team organiser for a branch.”
Video footage
The footage was recorded by Hertfordshire Hunt Saboteurs and is said to show members of the Cottesmore Hunt in Rutland – one of the oldest foxhound packs in Britain.
In the sickening video, Moulds is seen kicking a horse in its chest area and punching it on its face several times after the animal trots away from the back of a horse trailer.
Outrage
The video, which has since gone viral has sparked a huge outrage among netizens.
“That poor horse was hit and kicked. Every day more shocking evidence emerges of the violent cruelty these hunts inflict on innocent animals,” wrote one user.
“As a horsewoman myself, nothing makes me angrier than seeing footage such as this. It is shameful. There is absolutely no excuse for this behaviour,” commented another.
“No matter how frustrated you are, no matter if you’ve had a bad day. Horses are so sensitive. What a way to make them head shy.”
Animal charity PETA added: “Anyone who abuses animals should not be allowed to be around them, let alone be responsible for them. As investigations continue, we hope that Sarah Moulds will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Moreover, conservationist and RSPCA UK vice president Chris Packham also spoke out about the incident on Twitter.
He wrote: “Good afternoon [RSPCA], as a VP can I call upon you to urgently investigate and definitively prosecute this appalling abuse – thus upholding our standards of animal welfare protection. Thank you.”
Following the furore, Moulds has closed down her social media accounts and is currently living at a secret location for safety.
A neighbour and fellow rider in her home village near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, told Sun Online: “She’s had to go away after receiving death threats and loads of vile abuse.
“It’s awful and has got very much out of hand. She fears for her life.”
The lady added: “She has young children and she is worried about them as well as herself.
“She’s well known and respected in equestrian circles and her social media was bombarded with comments from very angry people after the video went viral and she’s now had to close it down.”
Probe
Meanwhile, animal welfare charity RSPCA- thought to be the largest of its kind in the UK, has urged witnesses to step forward.
An RSPCA spokesman said: “This footage is really upsetting. We will always look into complaints made to us about animal welfare.
“We would urge anyone with first-hand information about this incident to contact us on 0300 123 4999.”
