‘We’re saying thank you to all the NHS heroes who are doing a banging job’

The Meatless Farm has pledged to donate 20,000 meatless sausages to the charity ‘Help NHS Heroes’- a campaign launched to help NHS workers who are unable to access basic food items due to people panic buying.

Announcing the donation on Instagram, the British vegan brand wrote: “As our way of saying ‘thank you’ to all the NHS heroes who are doing a ‘banging job’, we’re supplying thousands of packs of plant-based sausages to keep spirits up.”

The company added that the plant-based sausages would be available at the hospitals’ pop-up supermarkets for the workers to pick up after their grueling shifts and would also be used at pop-cafes serving free breakfasts to the staff.

“Our sausages will then be available in family food boxes which can be picked up from NHS sites at the end of a shift, and also in free cooked breakfasts which are being served at pop-up cafes.”

‘HelpNHSHeroes’

The HelpNHSHeroes campaign completed a preliminary trial at 2 hospitals and is expected to roll out to a further 40 hospitals.

Jason Mawer, founder of Help NHS Heroes, said: “We started this initiative when we saw our hardworking NHS staff were unable to get hold of basic food items after their gruelling shifts.

“The initial support from companies like Meatless Farm is invaluable. We have had many messages of thanks and expressions of relief about the on-site access from our NHS heroes and we are committed to making this work on a national basis.”

The Meatless Farm

Morten Toft Bech, Founder of Meatless Farm, said: “HelpNHSHeroes is a very important initiative and we are delighted to be able to play our part in helping to provide the amazing NHS staff with a more convenient way to shop. NHS workers are doing a truly incredible job and now is the time to come together and support them in any way we can.”

The vegan brand also reached out to NHS services in Leeds by making and donating convenience meals such as spaghetti Bolognese and pasta to local hospitals.

In addition to helping frontline workers, the Meatless Farm also reached out to the most vulnerable and in need of support. The brand dispatched 7,000 retail packs of Meatless Farm products to FairShare, UK’s network of charitable re-distributors of food to help those in need.

In a separate Instagram post, the meat-free food company which launched its products in the United States through 450 Whole Foods Markets last year also announced that it had donated funds and Meatless Farm products to BoweryMission to help provide meals for the homeless population in New York City.
