Vans’ Eco Theory capsule is one of the brand’s first steps to ‘broader sustainable living’.
Iconic streetwear brand Vans has launched its first sustainable vegan shoe collection in the US.
The new Eco Theory range is a nod to the company’s ‘holistic approach to health and sustainability’.
It combines environmental consciousness with the classic Vans style you love and features four of the brand’s best-sellers – the lace-up Authentic sneakers, iconic Slip-Ons, SK8-Hi high tops, and the classic Style 36 kicks – constructed from ethically sourced, vegan, and environmentally friendly materials.
The canvas of each shoe in the capsule is made using organic cotton sourced from natural seeds, without the use of pesticides or harmful chemicals.
The laces are made using hemp, a natural fibre that is durable, anti-microbial, and manages moisture. According to Vans, hemp requires less water and acreage to grow, is a pesticide-resistant crop, and extracts metals from the soil.
While the inks and glues used are all water-based, Vans has employed an all-new Vans Rubber Compound, which is engineered to remove 100% of petroleum-based/fossil fuel rubber and replace it with natural rubber.
‘Broader sustainable living‘
Describing the capsule, Vans said: “With a more sustainable approach to our Surf Classics, the Eco Theory collection is one of the first steps in our journey to a broader sustainable living.”
Vans professional surfer Dane Gudauskas launching the capsule said: “Sustainability has to be at the forefront of Vans for the future.
“It’s a fantastic moment to own the space and contribute to a more sustainable way of producing.”
The Eco Theory range is available to shop at select retailers and the Vans Surf site.
