The bride-to-be took to a wedding forum on Facebook to vent out her frustration and seek advice.
A vegan bride has been asked to ‘eat around the meat’ on her wedding day by her future in-laws.
The anonymous woman posted about her predicament in a closed wedding forum on Facebook, according to Daily Mail.
In her post, she complained that her fiance’s ‘meat-obsessed’ family won’t allow her to have any plant-based options on the menu since they are paying for the catering.
Since the woman’s future husband also refused to stand up for her, she sought advice on the group.
“They always make jokes about me being vegan which I let go over my head and usually results in me sorting out my own food if we have dinner together,” she wrote.
“My fiancé always stays quiet and never sticks up for me.”
‘Sort it now’
The post has garnered an outpouring of support, backlash for the future family and well-meaning advice for the bride-to-be.
“This is all about the power dynamics operating in the family you are about to marry into. Name it and sort it now if you can – maybe with a counsellor. It’s not about the food,” one user advised.
“Stand your ground and stick up for your rights. It’s your wedding day and you should have the final say in EVERYTHING. If they can’t respect that then maybe you’re marrying into the wrong family,’ wrote another.
Some simply told her to decline their offer to sponsor the wedding menu. Others slammed her fiancé for failing to support her.
“You are allowed to say no, or say yes with qualifiers, like, ‘thank you for the offer, but if you do pay, we will still be deciding all aspects of the menu’,” a comment read.
“A man who loves you truly would consider and will support you whatever you want on your wedding agenda,” another further added.
