For vegans, there are a lot of frustrating contradictions about modern-day society that make us want to bang our heads against the wall. One of the most baffling is the intimate relationships many meat-eaters have with their pets. Countless non-vegans claim to be huge animal lovers and obsess over their beloved cats and dogs. They’ll spend all day petting and pandering to their sacred pets – but yet they’ll still happily eat meat in every meal.
Well that’s exactly the hypocrisy @notalwaysso highlighted on Twitter, and the response struck a chord with fellow vegans. The post was widely shared on social media and led to some interesting debates. It also gave vegans the chance to offer insightful theories into how such widespread hypocrisy became common in today’s society.
The Twitter post highlighted many people’s hypocrisy
Vegans questioned the thought process of meat-eating so-called animal lovers
Others highlighted the hypocrisy of the norm
One user gave a fascinating theory of how we ended up here
Another suggested ‘mass brainwashing’ is to blame
As the debate raged on, some suggested we should focus on humans more than animals, but vegans responded in style
And vegans passionately defended their right to stand up for animals
