The first ever all-vegan rugby club has launched in the UK and is currently looking for new players.
The Green Gazelles has been formed to prove the potential of plant-power, and is both scouting male and female players.
Founder Brendan Bale is looking for players of all abilities and already has interest from some high profile players.
“The squad is already forming nicely with well-known chef Gaz Oakley, professional player Darren Dawidiuk, coach David Cleary, and many more showing a keen interest,” Bale said in a statement.
“We will be formed as an invitational rugby 7s team to start competing in tournaments across the UK, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands but with the aspiration to play 15s competitively in the future.”
The club is ensuring all clothing and footwear is fully vegan, avoiding any leather items, and is on the search for sponsors.
The group explains on its Facebook: “We are the very first entirely Vegan Rugby Club, our aim is to showcase players who follow a plant-based diet – promoting the Veganism through rugby!
“Invitational Mens and Womens 7s teams seeking players, support staff and club supporters to help build a club of like minded peers. Join the Horde!”
Interested players are encouraged to contact the club on Facebook.

The Green Gazelles follows in the footsteps of vegan football club Forest Green Rovers, which has been plant-based since 2015.
Many of the world’s top sort stars follow a vegan diet, including Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, tennis legends Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams and Manchester United footballer Chris Smalling.
