Nowadays, vegan burgers are not just widely available but incredibly diverse. They can be made of anything from soya and seitan to beans and vegetables. They may be fancy artisan burgers, or simple fast food-style offerings. 

Whatever your preference, you’ll be sure to find something to your taste. Here are 35 of the best places to get vegan burgers in the capital. 

1. Mooshies

Mooshies serves handmade vegan burgers made from whole food ingredients. Its burgers are made of everything from pulled jackfruit and oyster mushrooms to aubergine, quinoa, and black beans. They come with an array of toppings like caramelised onions, mayo, vegan cheese, gherkins, and lettuce. 

The burgers are served in a multigrain brioche bun, and gluten-free options are available for some dishes. Find Mooshies at 104 Brick Lane, E1 6RL. 

2. The Vurger Co

The Vurger Co began as a market stall and crowdfunded its first restaurant in March 2018. Its burgers are fast food-style, but made with fresh vegetables, beans, and grains. Choose from the Auburger (made with aubergine, chickpeas, and red onion), the MLC (roast mushrooms and borlotti beans), and more. All burgers come with homemade sauces and an array of other toppings, including mayo, salsa, and vegan cheese. Sides include pesto mac ‘n’ cheese and skin-on fries.

Temple of Seitan is one of the best-known vegan fast food places in London. It offers a range of burgers and fried chicken dishes made with seitan, a realistic meat substitute made of vital wheat gluten.

4. Mildred’s

Mildred’s is a vegetarian restaurant which first opened in Soho in 1988. It now also has locations in King’s Cross, Camden, and Dalston. 

Two of its three burgers – the Mexican black bean burger and the buffalo chick’n burger – are vegan. You can choose to add vegan cheese to either for £1.50. Both come with mayo, onions, and various other toppings. 

5. byCHLOE

byCHLOE is a vegan fast food mini-chain which started in the US and has expanded to London. Currently there are locations in Covent Garden and One Tower Bridge, with more coming soon, Though the meals are junk food-style, they’re made with whole ingredients. 

It has two burgers – the Classic and the Guac. The former is made with tempeh, lentil, and chia, the latter with black beans and quinoa. Both can be made gluten-free. 

6. Vx

Vx is a vegan shop and junk food cafe in King’s Cross with a range of meals like vegan nuggets, cheesy chips, and nachos on the menu, along with desserts.

7. VBurger

VBurger is an all-vegan burger bar aiming to serve fast and delicious street food. At its location in Camden, it serves four plant-based burgers. There’s the famous “bleeding” Moving Mountains burger, as well as a beetroot burger, seitan schnitzel, and falafel burger. 10. The Full Nelson

Based in Deptford, The Full Nelson is a bar and vegetarian kitchen. There’s a vegan version available of every single option on the menu, including the three “beef” burgers and two “chicken” burgers. 11. 222 Vegan Cuisine

222 Vegan Cuisine claims to be “London’s favourite vegan restaurant”. It opened in 2004 and uses mainly fresh natural ingredients.

12. Farmacy

Farmacy is an organic plant-based restaurant in Notting Hill. It focuses on whole food ingredients, which is why its Farmacy burger is made with millet, black beans, and mushrooms. At £16.50, it’s on the more expensive end of the spectrum, but it does come with fries – either ordinary or sweet potato. It’s served in a sourdough bun with aioli, ketchup, pickles, and more. Mac and Wild specialises in Scottish produce. The menu is meat-heavy, as might be expected, but there are vegan options too. The Bloody Roots burger is a vegan haggis burger with “cheesy” fondue, mayonnaise, and salad.
