Burger King’s new plant-based Impossible Whopper will be grilled on the same surface as the standard beef patties, Impossible Foods has revealed.

The fast food chain has revealed it is rolling the burger out across the US following the raging success of the meatless burger’s trial launch.

The Impossible Whopper patty is made with soy protein, potato protein, coconut oil, sunflower oil, and heme – and is therefore free from animal products.

But vegans have questioned whether the patty would be cooked on the same grill as the meat version.

Twitter user @itisclit asked the patty creator Impossible Foods, and the company responded: “The Impossible™ Whopper® is flame-grilled on a surface shared with conventional meat. Please check with a participating Burger King® restaurant to confirm if any requests for an alternate preparation can be accommodated.”

Some vegans will be put off by the potential contamination of the burger with its beef version.

One Facebook user said they wouldn’t buy the patty due to it being cooked on the same surface as ‘evil meat’.

The meatless burger patty was introduced in the fast food chain’s restaurants in St. Louis, Missouri this month and was met with rave reviews and overwhelming demand.

Burger King will continue to trial the burger in different locations, and said in a statement the tests are being held ‘with the intention of nationwide distribution by the end of the year’.
