Body Shop adds refillable shower gel in bid to become greener

Share

Cosmetics company The Body Shop is launching shower gel refill stations and a dedicated activism zone in a bid to become more environmentally friendly.

The company, now owned by Brazilian company Natura, intends to return to its roots and follow in the footsteps of the brand’s late founder Anita Roddick, an environmental and human rights campaigner.

As part of the campaign, the brand has installed stations where customers can refill their empty shower gel bottles to reduce packaging waste.

Customers can also use a packaging return scheme in which they return empty bottles and containers from any brand and earn a £5 voucher for every five returned.

Activism

An in-store ‘activism corner’ allows customers to enroll in local campaigner groups and actively participate in local community drives.

The brand has revamped the busiest store located near Bond Street tube station in Central London, and intends to roll out the concept to other stores in Europe and North America if the pilot is successful.

The managing director of Body Shop, Linda Campbell, said the brand intends to redeem its position at the forefront of ethical business.

She said in a statement: “We are reviving the idea of empowerment of girls and women, which is core to our business

“We will be encouraging shoppers to come up with ideas for how they can help their local communities.

“Overall, the idea is for shoppers to have a bit of fun and to have some memorable experiences.”
